Pre Event Bandung-Singapore Displaced: Video Art Exchanges Project Bandung fourth and five discussion review Tuesday, 14 and 26 November2005
Apologetic for being late, with the Bandung review, yesterday we have to focus with other project to do, but now have been continuous the research.
After the third meeting, Bandung was in the end of fasting periods for Moslem. It was national holiday for Indonesia, almost of local resident are went out of the city to meet their family or transpose. Two week is a long holiday for us and need time to refresh to back with our habitual. The fourth and five meeting were attending with 7-10 local artists. It was the last research that we design, and it we have well outcome from the first research as a pre event. This meeting we started with private presentation in the common room. Some the artists are bring their data of the research: image, sketch, sound, text, audio video and ect.
Philla Tania (Sculpture and Video Artist; member of Video Babes) She made a story of her life story relation with the city, that she has a similar habit from child till now. Like 14 years with the similar way to school. The entire story she made like self-biography memory. Part of her story:
tiada tempat seindah rumah

Erik Pauhrizi (visual artist) I just started to research my present memory. After my graduated, recently I have liking to the city experience. Perceive that, to profound the cyber space phenomenon, some part of my attitude was attract to the Maya space, occasionally it turn out to be an additional than my real existence through the city. So the space it transform my city space through my memory. Now I just started to research this city project as my personal experiences.

Akbar (Letters student; Member of IF and VideoLab) My city experiences through my memory will be the project that I have to research. Try to extract to my present existence and recorded the entire place that I have been living on to dig back the old memory and transform it to the visual. Some recorded from my kindergarten to college place will tell about my education story, hang out place, shop, street, the people that I know, and other of me as the city boy.
Wilman (Sculpture Student) Considering inhabit existent whose increase a flash, were cause me to assume the essential of the urban space content to the local resident. It full of people whose come from out the city to stay for long time and what I show it, they do not give a good effort through city development. What I worried is city water as my personal city project to my related place to living, that has refusal change to now. Some local and temporal resident who's live in the urban area that near to the river are still using the water in the direction of primary needed. Some of my research giving negative result from the city water (river), the water is still have bad microbiologists to human bodies. Sample microbiologists Analyses that I have been research:
- Cikapundung rivers: there is a dominant bacterium with circle form, short stick, dominated with gram-negative bacteria short stick. - Citepus River: there is a dominant bacteria with middle stick, short stick, and circle form, dominated with gram negative bacteria short stick. - Cikenal River: there is a dominant bacteria with middle stick, short stick, and circle form, dominated with gram negative bacteria short stick.

Gembi and Ageung (Letters student; Member of Pemuda Electric) Because I'm not come from this city, I want to compare some similar problem with my place (Jakarta). There some interesting phenomena from local inhabit as pereman. In Bandung this man is not hard as in Jakarta, they still interrelate with common people, engage in recreation, smiling, good manner, but they still act as pereman survive some area for their life.

The meeting was attending with 16 local selected artists that are multidisciplinary background and 1 contributes, associated local community towards the video practice. This first meeting who's involving local resident, are discussing the base of urban project by their point of view, some of personal statement:
Reggie Aquara (Painting Student)
Urban project is center of multi conflict and culture clash. The tradition identity was construct creation near in their value, of managed and chaos as an assess characteristic. Occasionally Bandung as urban space befalls in simulacra with other urban space former inhabits.
Ben Isa (Print Making Student)
Complementary, headed for the traditional and modern characteristic. The differential of market using is particulars controlled through the city life style.
Philla Tania (Sculpture and Video Artist; member of Video Babes)
Individual as a city element, its life and active to generate a memory, imagination, that closes to subjective project?
Urban Infrastructure: Hydrant, traffic light, zebra cross, garbage and ect.
Gembi (Letters student; Member of Pemuda Electric)
Local discourse are resolve to be an alternative identifier in the role of the city, but urban border cause to feel attentive anxiety into global space.
Akbar (Letters student; Member of IF)
Reside in Bandung city; give me sense as the city Boys. The city with all locales made an individual contemplation, like in one song lyric “I'm lonely in a crowd”, and it's remedy to look for myself.
Wilman (Sculpture Student) For me urban project is how to respond the simulacra of Bandung , similar to Reggie. Frustrating to the big sign of car police plat that interrupted me.
Water concern is my other interest as previous problem in the city and I would like to research the content of Bandung water as city water.
Tumpal (Bachelor in Mathematic)
Urban project is how inhabit tries to answer the index of life that interest me to investigate the street meaning for Bandung inhabit.
Follow-on the third meeting, the urban project as an individual project is, how artists make an effort in the direction of memory and eyes transform to the close spaces via video recorder.
Next Topic
Presentation from Bandung participants
And question, why almost of video artists when they make a video art, they always arrange it with the audio, sound, or music?

Pre Event Bandung-Singapore Displaced: Video Art Exchanges Project
Bandung first and second discussion review
Tuesday, 11 and 18 October 2005
This is the first time we had a meeting place with all (Bandung alternative spaces) whose involve in this project, attending with Gustaff (Common Room), Chrisgatha (Roomno1), Akbar (IF), Erik Pauhrizi (Devil Chips), Yusuf Ismail (Devil Chips)and Sancok (Devil Chips).
In the middle of Gustaff kitchen house (Common Room), underway to make an additional artistic strategy practise, the artistic customary adopted were being investigate. Avoid that, previously Gustaff have a chat and show his displace text in his past youth local magazine ‘Trolley’, and try to put side by side with future project.
Mentally mapping are accepted to adopt into the project, for the duration of two hour discussions, the project assemble in attendance our new artistic era. Offering new refresh point view, in addition anti aesthetic complicate, that non-artistic it’s an artistic possessions or an artistic it’s an artistic possessions. Anti aesthetic started in early 20th- century as an art movement that the rebellion against easel painting and conventional art launched by the Dada movement during World War I, The term is meant to indicate the movement’s rejection of conventional artistic practices and bourgeois tastes.
Opposed to conventional art, we made in medium of video as the new media art, which is, represent of our age. The project is made to become platform attempt to respond individual close space memories. From Dutch rules to now, Bandung always be a magnet for people to come in and make something close with, the city is solitary urban in Indonesia whose increase very fast, offering life style, fashion, music, culture, colonial architectural, market, education and ect. Collage and the research will be the method to do with the local resident participants as their memory life.
The collage we investigate from dada movement , as a part of sign of the city and other so-called found objects and materials, which are collect and combine to make new traditions. The addition such elements surprised viewers who expected sign to produce an art of the real city, rather than contain objects from that city. Composed of materials from the everyday environment, collage was life itself as their life.

FOOT NOTE:
Displaced is a young artist collaboration photography project, released for the first time in 2005, in Bandung, Indonesia. Named Displaced Spaces for landscape project in Tangkuban Perahu Mountain and continuous in the end of this year, by young artists which having the same interest focus to this local project tries to grow up into regional.
Dada, early 20th-century art movement, whose members sought to ridicule the culture of their time through deliberately absurd performances, poetry, and visual art. Dadaists embraced the extraordinary, the irrational, and the contradictory largely in reaction to the unprecedented and incomprehensible brutality of World War I (1914-1918). In 1913 French artist Marcel Duchamp made the first of his readymade, in which he elevated everyday objects, such as a bicycle wheel or a bottle rack, to the status of sculpture simply by exhibiting them in a gallery and pronouncing them art. Duchamp and French artist Francis Picabia took up temporary residence in New York City in 1915, where they created playful paintings, drawings, and sculptures that depicted figures in the form of mysterious machinery—a jab at new technology.
In any case, the name dada, French for “rocking horse”, won general support for its ambiguity and evident inanity. In a manifesto of 1918, Tzara proclaimed, “DADA MEANS NOTHING.”
By the end of 1922 the dada movement had begun to fall apart. Quarrels developed between some members, and others seemed to tire of maintaining a stance of outrage against society. In Paris the dadaists were joined by a group of writers, including Frenchmen André Breton, Louis Aragon, Paul Éluard, and Philippe Soupault, who transformed dadaist interests in irrationality and chance into a new movement known as surrealism. Dada's influence was also felt in a number of later movements. They include a group of 1960s performance artists known as Fluxus; the pop art movement, which incorporated images from popular culture; and the conceptual art movement, which viewed ideas in themselves as art.
